So we listening to Beethoven’s 5th today in Music Class. I really dug it. I don’t know what it is about it him but that symphony is so totally cool. My only complaint is the uber-long ending that I am told is common to most of his stuff. He fakes you out six or seven times before the piece actually ends. It is also interesting how Beethoven’s own musical prowess increased at a rapid pace during a three year stint where he took a break from working. Dr. Schuler commented that Beethoven almost singlehandedly moved the current music out of the Classical period into the Modern period. His later music is distinctly different from from his earlier works and apparently it is as a result of this.
