Sheesh, if that’s the standard, they jumped it a long time ago. I thought the clip was hilarious. I think that jumping the shark (or nuking the fridge) is easier for dramas like Lost then for comedies like the Simpsons.

I think politics belongs to comedy more than drama. Comedy is one of the areas where the ideas can be addressed and discussed. A political point in drama is often key to the story, like the eavesdropping in Dark Knight. It ended up saving the world while being derided by the characters. There was no way to discuss that conundrum. In the Simpsons there is room to discuss and show the different paths that ideas take, since the consequences are often improbable and never matter. I liked the Simpsons treatment of the primaries in last season much better, especially the opening premise.
